This is one from the vault - the semi-final match between Mike Massey and Earl Strickland from the 1992 Tour Championship - from the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tn. This tournament featured the Meucci Shot Clocks - players are on a 20 second shot clock - two 20 minute halves. Great run out 9- ball, a few full-cue jump shots by both players - some familiar faces in the crowd - and Buddy Hall calling the action with Kevin Cusick. There are even some "tip" segments featuring David Howard and Jim Rempe. I uploaded this the way it was on the tape, complete with some pretty cool old school pool commercials... enjoy!

I want my students to have real results and have real improvement, so it’s time for a little tough love.
It seems like everybody these days wants to be a wizard on the pool table right away.* They want to pull off crazy shots, learn advanced strategy, kicking, cool bank shots etc…* and then when I watch them play a little, they can’t even hold the cue properly, they are jumping up on their shots, they are hitting their body with their cue on their stroke, or to avoid this they are steering their cue off line and delivering an ugly stroke.* Yet they want advanced strategy, and they can’t even pull of a friggin stop shot when they need it, or draw the cue ball 6 feet for shape on the 9 ball.
When I have a new student, I know what their problems are before I even see them hit a ball.* This might sound arrogant but it’s not.* It’s just reality.* I’ve been teaching for 20 years and I know what people are

CueTips Billiards Instruction: A Tribute to Grady Mathews -NYC Grind

By NYC Grind Contributor, **Mark Finkelstein* (http://dev.nycgrind.com/about/nyc-grind-contributors/mark-finkelstein-instructional-columnist-2/)*
The pool world got some bad news last night that *Grady Mathews* (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grady_Mathews), one of the legends of our game, has died. *I am truly saddened by our loss. *We have lost a great player, a man with the heart of a lion, nerves of steel, and just a damn nice guy to know. *I am glad our paths had crossed over the years, and I am a better person for knowing him. *I hear you are giving God the 8 and you’re the favorite!
I wanted to share with our readers a kicking system that I learned from Grady, probably 40 years ago, that I still use and teach today.* I think you will all like this system and use it.* Please think of Grady and say ‘thank you’ when you do. *Rest in Peace Grady, I miss you.

By NYC Grind Contributor, *Alison M. Fischer* (http://www.nycgrind.com/about/nyc-grind-contributors/the-other-alison-fischer-editor-photographer/)
As one of the premier regional pro/am pool tours in the nation, the *Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour* (http://www.Joss9BallTour.com) consistently draws many of the toughest players in the Northeast.
The tour’s most recent stop was the *Northeast 9-Ball Open XXV*, held at *Golden Cue Billiards* in Albany, NY on April 14-15… where *Angelo Inness* of Elmira, NY went undefeated to take the title, finishing off his run with a hill-hill win in the finals versus *Jeremy Sossei*.
This was a breakthrough event for Inness, making for his first win on the Joss Tour. This was only the sixth Joss event he has competed in… with his previous best finish being 5th place.
